Last updated: 28 October 2026 · Sign code: TT-27 · Prohibitory and restrictive signs

In short: The no overtaking sign means that from this point motor vehicles may not overtake the motor vehicle in front. It shows a red car and a black car side by side in a red-bordered white circle.
What should you do when you see this sign?
- Do not overtake after the sign; stay in your lane.
- If the vehicle in front is slow, follow it at a safe distance.
- The ban ends at the end of no overtaking sign or the end of all restrictions sign.
Where and why is it used?
The sign is usually placed before bends, hilltops and roadworks where visibility is poor. Even without a sign, overtaking is not allowed on hilltops, bends, junctions, pedestrian crossings and level crossings.
