The Turkish driving licence e-exam: what to expect on exam day

The written part of the Turkish driving test is a computer-based exam (e-sınav) taken at an e-exam centre run by the Ministry of National Education (MEB). It has 50 questions, you get 45 minutes, and the pass mark is 70. Knowing the format in advance helps you stay calm and use your time well.
What is the e-exam?
In the e-exam (e-sınav) the questions appear on a screen and you choose your answer with the mouse. Each candidate gets questions picked from a large question pool, so the person sitting next to you will probably not have the same questions as you.
Each question is worth 2 points, so you need at least 35 correct answers to reach 70. For the subjects and scoring in detail, see our guide to the Turkish driving test in English.
Before the exam
- Appointment: You do not book the exam yourself. Your driving school (sürücü kursu) gets the exam date and place for you and tells you. Write down the date, the time and the exact exam building.
- Fee: Make sure the e-exam fee of 1,250 TL has been paid. Ask your school to confirm this.
- Language: If you want to take the exam in English, tell your school at registration or at least 3 working days before the exam.
- The last week: Do at least one full mock exam every day. Instead of learning new topics, go back over the questions you got wrong. Our full mock exam uses the same 50-question, 45-minute format.
- The night before: Sleep well. When you are tired, it is easy to lose points on questions that need careful reading.
On exam day
- Do not forget your ID. You will not be allowed into the exam without a valid identity document. Ask your school which document to bring.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes early.
- Do not take your phone or other electronic devices in. Entering the exam room with an electronic device is forbidden.
- Do not be late. If a candidate has already left the exam room when you arrive, you will not be let in.
- Read the on-screen instructions before you start. Check how to move between questions, how to mark an answer and how to finish the exam.
Managing your time
- You have about 54 seconds per question. Do not spend more than a minute on a question you are stuck on. Mark your best guess and move on.
- Answer the easy ones first. Collect the points you are sure about, then come back to the harder questions.
- Never leave a question blank. Wrong answers do not cancel out correct ones. If you are not sure, choose the most logical option.
- Read the question carefully. Negative questions such as "which one is wrong?" (hangisi yanlıştır) or "which one should not be done?" (hangisi yapılmamalıdır) are where most mistakes happen. Look for the word "not".
- Check before you finish. Make sure no question is left unanswered, then end the exam.

Tips for foreign candidates
- Choose your language early. The e-exam is available in English, Arabic, Russian, German, French, Persian or Chinese. Tell your school in time (see above).
- No interpreter is provided. You read and answer the questions on your own, so practise in the language you will use on the day.
- Ask your school the practical questions. For example: Which exam centre will I go to? What time should I be there? Which ID should I bring? Has my exam language been recorded?
When do you get your result?
One good thing about the e-exam is that you do not have to wait long. You learn your result on the same day, usually as soon as you finish the exam. You can also check it later on the MEB e-exam results page or on e-Devlet (the Turkish government's online services portal) using your identity number.
