What does the give way sign mean in Turkey?
Last updated: 28 October 2026 · Sign code: TT-1 · Priority signs: stop, give way, priority road

In short: The give way sign means traffic on the road you are entering or crossing has priority. If the road is clear you may go on carefully without stopping; if traffic is coming, slow down and stop if needed. It is a white upside-down triangle with a red border.
What should you do when you see this sign?
- Slow down as you approach the junction and check the main road.
- Give way to vehicles on the main road and stop if necessary.
- If the road is completely clear you do not have to stop.
Where and why is it used?
Give way signs are mostly found where a minor road joins a main road or a roundabout. At a roundabout entrance the sign reminds you that vehicles already going round have priority. The upside-down triangle shape is used only for this sign.
Special shapes Tell you who has right of way at a junction. Their shapes are unique so you can recognise them even when covered in snow: STOP is an octagon and GIVE WAY an upside-down triangle.
