Driving licence renewal in Turkey (2026): when and how

New-style (card) Turkish driving licences in classes such as B, A and M are valid for 10 years. C and D classes are valid for 5 years. When the period ends the licence is no longer valid, and you renew it at a population office (nüfus müdürlüğü) with a new health report. The deadline for swapping old paper licences ended on 31 July 2025.
How long is a Turkish driving licence valid?

The licence becomes invalid from the day after the expiry date. The date is printed on the card, and you can also see it in the e-Devlet service Sürücü Belgesi Bilgileri Sorgulama (driving licence details).
How do you renew a driving licence in Turkey?
- Get a health report. A new driver's health report (sürücü olur sağlık raporu) is what extends the licence; the new period is counted from the date of the report. See driving licence health report.
- Book an appointment at randevu.nvi.gov.tr, through the e-Devlet service Sürücü Belgesi Başvuru Randevusu, or by calling Alo 199.
- Pay the fees and arrive at the population office at least 30 minutes before your appointment.
- Your photo, signature and fingerprints are taken. The new card is sent to your address by PTT.

Can you renew before the licence expires?
A new card is issued before the expiry date only for a reason such as loss, theft, damage or a change in your identity details. In these cases the card fee and the foundation share are charged in full; in 2026 these two items total 2,115 TL. If you lose your licence, you can report it through the e-Devlet service Sürücü Belgesi Kayıp Bildirimi.
Are old pink paper licences still valid?
No. The deadline to swap old-style (pink, paper) licences for the new card was extended several times and finally ended on 31 July 2025. If you still have an old licence, you need to switch to the new card. The discounted swap fee ended with the deadline; ask the population office for the current amount when you book.
Foreign licences and driving abroad
- According to NVİ, a licence issued abroad can be used in Turkey for 6 months by foreign nationals and 1 year by Turkish citizens. After that you need a Turkish licence.
- With a new-style Turkish licence you can drive for 6 months in countries that are party to the Road Traffic Convention. For other countries you need an international driving permit.
